Sony CFO Kenichiro Yoshida takes helm; CEO becomes chairman

Sony’s current CFO Kenichiro Yoshida will take over as CEO effective April 1, according to the company.

Yoshida, aged 58, joined the company in 1983.

Current CEO Kazuo Hirai will step down and become chairman after a six-year stint during which he turned the company around.

While announcing the executive change, Sony also upgraded its forecast for the current fiscal year, ending March 31. The firm forecast operating profit of ¥720 billion (US$6.6 billion) for the fiscal year, versus an earlier forecast of ¥630 billion. Revenue forecast is unchanged at ¥8.5 trillion.
