The School of Accountancy at Singapore Management University has launched a suite of data analytics programs for accountants and would-be accountants. The new courses of study include a master of science in accounting (data and analytics) degree and a second major for accounting undergraduates.
“Our programs provide critical understanding and practical knowledge of the latest analytics technology and data sets, and prepare graduates and working professionals for the changes and challenges in the wider accounting industry,” said Cheng Qiang, who is dean of the School of Accountancy. “We also enable them to value-add and boost the competitive advantage of their employers, and to seize opportunities to advance their careers.”
All Singapore Management University undergraduates, not just those in the School of Accountancy, can take the second major by the end of their second year. The program covers “skill sets that employers now look for, which include programming, accounting application, data visualisation and data management,” said the school.
The Master of Science in Accounting (Data and Analytics) program is open to international students. The cost is S$40,000 (around US$30,000) exclusive of GST. Application deadline is January 15, 2018. The annual intake will be about 40 graduates.
