Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang recently appointed Tong Kwang-Yong as financial controller and Wong Siew-Chin as assistant financial controller.
Neither Tong nor Wong are strangers to the Shangri-La family, as both have prior work experience with the group. Tong was financial controller at Traders Hotel, Penang, and Wong was the assistant financial controller at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang from 2000 to 2004, before the resort underwent a makeover.
Tong brings with him a wealth of financial knowledge and capabilities with previous roles as financial controller for the Berjaya Langkawi Resort, the Gurney Resort Hotel and Residences, as well as Traders Hotel, Penang. Prior to his venture into the hospitality industry, Tong worked as an accountant for Dell Asia Pacific, Khind Industries Sdn Bhd and the Electricity Supply Board Services B.V. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance, accountancy and banking from Universiti Utara Malaysia.
Wong has been in the hospitality industry since starting out as a food and beverage cost controller in 1984, and in her new position will assist Tong. She has held various positions as accountant, finance manager and financial controller in hotels such as the Berjaya Times Square Hotel and Convention Centre, Tiara Beach Resort, Avillion Port Dickson Resort, Eden Garden Hotel, Puteri Pan Pacific Hotel and the Holiday Inn.
