Warning to Corporates: China Becomes More Sensitive to Perceived Questions Around Its Sovereignty

Companies doing business in China have been put on notice that they will be called out if they suggest that Taiwan and Tibet are sovereign countries.

Spanish retailer Zara, America's Delta Air Lines and Irish medical devices firm Medtonic were ordered to apologize for carrying "illegal contents" on their websites.
Zara and Medtronic referred to Taiwan as a country,  while Delta categorized Taiwan and Tibet as countries. Earlier, hotel chain Marriott was ordered to shut its Chinese websites and apps for a week after it sent out an email survey that categorized Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Tibet as separate nations.
All the companies called out have complied with the order.
