Emerging from the Shadows

The shadow economy (SE) is expected to decline globally by 2025, from 23% of global GDP in 2011 to an estimated 21% in 2025.

However, the prevalence of SE activities continue to throw up considerable practical and ethical issues with which professional accountants need to grapple.

At the same time, the role of professional accountants, in an individual and professional capacity, emerges as a key factor that could determine how the SE might develop over the next secade and whether they will shrink or grow over time.
