Pay Increase for Thai Workers

Bangkok's tripartite National Wage Committee has approved an increase in the minimum daily wage throughout Thailand by an average 11 baht (US$0.35), reports the Bangkok Post.

Workers in Phuket will receive an additional 17 baht ($0.56) a day, raising the daily wage to 221 baht ($7.35). Those in Bangkok and nearby provinces will get a new daily wage of 215 baht ($7.15) a day.

Effective January 1, 2011, the new wage rise will benefit about 2 million Thai workers and 2 million foreign labourers, says the Post.
