As we close a rather tumultuous year, one that was marked by market and economic volatility in some emerging markets as the US hinted it would end quantitative easing, it’s instructive to look back and see what themes preoccupied finance chiefs and other finance executive in the past 12 months.
CFO Innovation analyzed the 10,000 or so feature articles, news items, white papers and other stories we published in 2013 and ranked the top 120 by unique page views. And the top subject that interested you most is . . . professional development (accounting for 25% of the total unique views), meaning stories about nurturing your career and professional growth.

Themes That Resonated With CFOs in 2013
The second hottest topic is talent management (14%), which is about nurturing and developing the career of your finance team members (and, not incidentally, keeping them happy with and employed in the organization).
The other topics that resonated with CFO Innovation readers include stories about benchmarking (10%), finance transformation (8%) and accounting (7%).

Drilling down to the individual articles, the Top 15 stories that piqued your interest cut across themes. The most read story is about professional development, but also among the top 20 hottest articles are those about shared services, outsourcing and governance.
