Hidden Opportunities for Cash-Rich Companies

Companies in the US are holding about US$1.6 trillion on their balance sheet, says Barbara Reinhard, Chief Investment Officer, Private Banking Americas, at Credit Suisse. “That’s a lot of cash to be sitting on the sideline” -- at a time when the US and global economy is on the mend.

Companies can do four things: buy shares if they view them as attractive valued, engage in mergers and acquisitions, spend on capital expenditures to grow more organically, and initiate or grow their dividends.
