ERP in Manufacturing: The Evolving ERP Strategy

Nine out of ten manufacturers have already implemented an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, but not all have been successful.
This survey finds that companies that have achieved best-in-class performance share common characteristics, among them:
  • formed cross-functional continuous improvement teams (70%)
  • integrated manufacturing operations with product design (61%)
  • developed ability to quickly alter ERP to reflect business change (56%)
To achieve best-in-class performance, the study recommends, among other actions, that companies:
  • share data with the extended enterprise
  • provide alerts to decision-makers when certain conditions occur
  • enhance the ability to forecast and plan for demand
