Chinese Banks Want to Expand Overseas, Explore M&A

Largerly unscathed by the global crisis, China's top banks want to play a greater role in the economy and are looking to further expand overseas.

 

"We shouldn't just set up branches overseas, but also explore M&A. Two approaches should be combined," Niu Ximing, president of Bank of Communications Co., China's fifth-largest bank by assets, told the annual Lujiazui Forum attended by the Wall Street Journal.

 

According to the Journal, China's banks believe the time is ripe for them to go global and are calling on the government to support them by streamlining procedures and approvals to help efficiency.
