Business Roundtable: Shaping the Next-Generation Workplace

This white paper hosted by Cisco is based on a video-conferencing roundtable discussion with 14 business leaders in five Asian cities that took place in April 2013. With the help of Internet connection and technology, the workplace is becoming more flexible and you are no longer tied to the office. Instead you can do the same job from home, at a coffee shop or at a business center.

The adaptation to the new workplace among the panelists varies. Many are already working with video conferencing, although connectivity sometimes is an issue. Some have already implemented “shared workspaces” for people who mostly work remotely and only come in to the office a couple of days a week. They agree that the technology is already here; the challenges have more to do with corporate cultures and processes.

  • Roll things out judiciously
  • Involve the relevant stakeholders
  • Monitor and measure work performance and productivity
  • Recognise the importance of culture in workplace transformation
  • Don't get to dazzled by technology that you forget the human element
