Avoiding the Pitfalls of International Expansion

This white paper from IDC, sponsored by TMF Group, talks about the most common mistakes companies do when they set up abroad. The report is based on a global survey, conducted during the summer of 2013.
The survey shows that revenue growth is the key motivator for companies to expand (86%), and many companies are looking to set up new grounds in emerging markets, particularly Asia. The most common issues that expanding companies encounters are:
  • Finding the right premises and local suppliers (42%)
  • Understanding and complying with local rules and regulations (36%)
  • Understanding cultural differences (28%)
Recommendations for enterprises that are considering expanding internationally:
  1. Start early with thorough pre-launch research and planning
  2. Get local help
  3. Use outsourcing
