In a report submitted to the U.S. Congress Wednesday, the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission has called China's indigenous innovation campaign "a blueprint for technology theft on a scale the world has never seen before," says an AFP report published by ChannelNews Asia.
According to the commission, the "indigenous innovation" effort, aims to reduce Chinese dependence on foreign technology--a move that sees significant intellectual property theft from US companies.
Foreign technology companies have openly complained about the regulation since it was announced almost a year ago. More than 30 industry groups -- representing most of the world's major technology companies -- have told the Chinese government in a letter that they were "deeply troubled" the regulation they say discriminates against their products.
