Taiwan President Seeks Early Signing of Economic Pact with China

Taiwan's economic future rests on the economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) with China, says Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou, who wants the deal signed during the first half of this year, according to a report by Tax-News.com
 
Tax-News.com notes that with the ECFA, it would be easier for Taiwan to pursue free trade agreements with its other major trading partners. The Taiwanese president is worried that the creation of a free trade agreement between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on January 1 this year will adversely affect Taiwan’s trade prospects.

 

Both countries still have much preparatory work to do, particularly on a roster of products qualified for lower tariffs, reveals the tax news portal.
