Singapore's unemployment rate is at its lowest level in almost two years after employers added 36,500 jobs in the first quarter.
The Straits Times reports that the services sector hired the bulk of new workers (33,400), followed by manufacturing which added 3,100 jobs.
"The labour market strengthened in the first quarter of 2010, driven by the robust rebound from the economic downturn. Employment grew strongly, contributing to an improvement in unemployment for the second straight quarter as redundancies remained at pre-recessionary levels," said the Ministry of Manpower in a statement obtained by the Times.
