The Bank of New York Mellon, provider of asset management and securities services, has appointed Shekar Ranganathan to the position of Regional Financial Controller for the Asia Pacific region. Ranganathan will assume the position from September 1, 2009.
Ranganathan joined BNY Mellon in December 2004 as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer for BNY Mellon’s operations in Pune and has been a key contributor to the growth and success of the company’s rapidly expanding business there. In addition to setting up and managing all facets of BNY Mellon’s finance infrastructure and functionality in Pune, Ranganathan has provided on-the-ground leadership for the company’s General Services team, the local IT Help Desk and other infrastructure support activity.
In his new role, he will continue to be based in Pune, India and have dual reporting lines to John Roy, International CFO in London, and to John Park, Controller in New York. Ranganathan will work closely with Christopher Sturdy, Chairman of Asia Pacific and all the Asia Pacific business and shared service heads to support the company’s regional growth strategies, build out the finance infrastructure,and oversee regulatory reporting.
Ranganathan is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. He also completed an executive MBA program via INSEAD in Fontainebleau, Paris. He commenced his career in India in Audit and also spent several years in Botswana, Southern Africa, as Head of Finance for Ricoh. Prior to joining BNY Mellon, he worked, among other roles, as Head of Finance for Alcatel’s Development Center in Chennai.
