Retail sales across the Asia Pacific region is set for double-digit growth as consumer spending is expected to make a robust turnaround this year, reports The Straits Times.
Citing the inaugural MasterCard Worldwide Index of Consumer Spending Capability (MWICSC), the Times notes that "all 14 markets in this year's survey show positive year-on-year changes compared with 2009, indicating rising consumer spending capability moving forward."
Dr Yuwa Hedrick-Wong, economic advisor, Asia/Pacific, MasterCard Worldwide states that consumers are now in a position to pick up the slack left behind by the termination of government spending to keep domestic demand growing.
