The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) has announced the global association’s 2011-2012 board of directors, officers and executive committee.
Dennis Beran, CIA, CCSA senior vice president and director of audit at J.C. Penney, Inc., headquartered in Dallas, Texas, USA, was elected chairman of the board.
Beran has spent his 40-year career at J.C. Penney, joining the company in 1971 directly after graduating Cum Laude from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, with a BS degree in Accounting.
He spent the next four decades building a successful internal audit career by working his way up through the ranks of the internal audit division, holding positions at a variety of field locations and now located in the Home Office of jcpenney where he leads all internal audit operations.
As chairman, he will serve as a key spokesperson for The IIA. Beran will work to foster positive, mutually beneficial relationships between The IIA and other professional organisations. He will also be responsible for presiding at all meetings and appointing all committee chairmen and committee members, ad hoc committees and task forces.
Philip D. Tarling, CIA, CMIIA, international projects director at RSM Tenon in Fareham, United Kingdom, has been elected senior vice chairman of the board. He will responsible for working with the vice chairmen to facilitate communication and coordination among IIA committees to drive the organisation’s strategic activities.
Tarling will oversee the Global Advocacy Committee, Global Ethics Committee and IAAAF/Academic Relations. Tarling will be eligible for election as chairman of the board in July 2012.
Paul J. Sobel, CIA, vice president and chief audit executive at Georgia-Pacific Corporation in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, has been elected vice chairman of the board – professional certifications.
Sobel will direct the strategies of the certification program of The IIA, which includes exams for Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certificate in Control Self-assessment (CCSA), Certified Government Audit Professional (CGAP), and Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA). Sobel will oversee the Professional Certifications Board as well as the Exam Development Committee.
Douglas J, Anderson, CIA, global finance director at Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan, USA, has been elected vice chairman of the board – professional guidance.
Anderson will oversee and coordinate the Internal Audit Standards Board, the Professional Issues Committee and the Public Sector Committee to develop guidance and issue position papers on topics directly or indirectly affecting the internal audit profession.
Fatimah Abu Bakar, CIA, CCSA, executive director at Columbus Advisory Sdn Bhd in Kuala Lumpur, Malayia, has been elected vice chairman of the board – global services.
Abu Bakar will supervise and coordinate the global services committees to ensure The IIA provides the most relevant and comprehensive benefits possible to its membership. She will also oversee the Institute Relations Committee and the International Conference Committee.
Patricia E. Scipio, CIA, director at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, has been elected vice chairman of the board – research. Scipio will also serve as the president of The IIA Research Foundation, providing strategic direction for research on the internal audit profession. Scipio will oversee the Research Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the Committee of Research & Education Advisors.
Michael J. Head, CIA, managing director - corporate audit at TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation in Omaha, Nebraska, has been elected vice chairman of the board –finance and treasurer.
Head will oversee the establishment and maintenance of adequate controls for safeguarding the funds of The Institute. Head will oversee the Global Finance Committee as well as the Investment Committee.
Gary A. Anderson, CIA, managing director at Protiviti in Melbourne, Australia, has been elected secretary of The IIA’s board of directors.
He will be responsible for notifying The IIA’s board of directors of meetings and informing members of The Institute about general membership meetings. Additionally, Anderson will be responsible for keeping records of all meetings and ensuring that both board and IIA members have ready access to all records.
