A top US trade official has aired his concern about China's "indigenous innovation" regulation that is preventing American companies from entering the huge government procurement market, reports the South China Morning Post.
“We need to look at what’s going to be the most effective way of addressing these policies, but it’s a deep concern for us,” Deputy US Trade Representative Demetrios Marantis said during a discussion at Georgetown University’s law school.
The newspaper says that the policy, introduced in November, intends to promote more innovation in the Chinese economy, but the US argues the rule is a trade barrier that does not reflect how products are developed in the global economy. US business groups complain that the procurment policies give preferences to enterprises that develop intellectual property in the mainland.
