Technology companies have openly complained about a new Chinese policy that requires vendors to gain accreditation for their products before they can be included in a government procurement catalog of products containing "indigenous innovation," reports the Wall Street Journal.
According to the Journal, more than 30 industry groups -- representing most of the world's major technology companies -- told the Chinese ministries in a letter that they were "deeply troubled" by a new regulation they say discriminates against their products.
"Implementation of this system will restrict China's capacity for innovation," says the industry letter, adding that it will "impose onerous and discriminatory requirements on companies seeking to sell into the Chinese government procurement market, and contravene multiple commitments of China's leadership to resist trade and investment protectionism and promote open government procurement policies."
