Seeking to overcome criticisms that it discriminates against foreign companies, China has reapplied for membership in the World Trade Organization's Agreement on Government Procurement, which requires nondiscriminatory access to government purchases, reports the Wall Street Journal.
The GPA is an accord among more than a dozen parties, including the U.S. and the European Union, and has more than 20 observers, says Journal.
Observers say the proposal for membership will undoubtedly be subject to further revisions and negotiations before it gets widely accepted by the WTO and members of the GPA.
