Beijing has slapped duties on imports from the U.S. and Russia on grain-oriented, flat-rolled electrical steel imports, a week after the U.S. commerce department decided to impose antidumping duties of up to 99.14% on imports of steel pipes from China, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Defending its decision, China's commerce ministry argues that its local industry has endured substantial damage due to subsidies and to dumping of the product by U.S. and Russian firms.

The Journal says China will levy countervailing duties of as much as 64.8% on imports of the electrical steel from the U.S. while antidumping duties of as much as 25% has been slapped on imports from Russia.
