Two weeks before U.S. President Barack Obama's first visit to China, Americans see relations with the world's third-largest economy as the most important, but more than half of those surveyed view the country as a foe, reports Thomson Reuters.

Thomson Reuters says that when respondents were asked to choose from a list of countries "the most important bilateral relationship the United States should have," 34% chose China. Britain (23%) was the second choice, followed by Canada (18%).

When asked to describe China as either an "ally" or an "adversary," 56% see China as a  foe, while only 33% view the country as an ally, says Ipsos Public Affairs, which conducted the poll for Thomson Reuters.
